early childhood development programs

Through home visiting and education services, the Early Childhood Development Programs provide a range of services that help build parental capacity to support the healthy development of children during pre-conception to 6 years of age, and to prevent child abuse and/or neglect.

Prenatal CLASSES
One of the most important objectives of prenatal classes is to promote family centered maternity care by helping family members adapt to the changes experienced during pregnancy and childbirth.

Education throughout the process of labour, delivery, postpartum and newborn care serves to help the entire family meet the changes incurred with the birth of a new baby.

Instruction is provided by a qualified Health Care Professional. Each complete Prenatal Course consists of five sections.  Ideally, you will attend all five sections of the course with your coach.  Please note that a weekend format is possible if requested by the majority of class participants.

There are four sessions offered annually in Clearwater:

  •  Spring

  •  Summer

  •  Fall

  •  Winter

The $35.00 fee can be paid at the first class, and this covers costs for you and your support person. Subsidies are available when necessary.

Please bring a copy of Baby's Best Chance, available through your doctor. Comfortable clothing is suggested.

For more information, please call Program Coordinator, Lynnette Fleury @ (250) 674-2600

Both our child care facilities provide an environment that will promote the social, intellectual, and physical development of each child. This is accomplished through free play, art, music, stories, and manipulative and large muscle play. Emphasis is placed on appropriate behaviour and problem solving through role modeling and loving care. Our centres are filled with developmentally appropriate toys, equipment and materials to help their learning and growth. Through a theme-based curriculum, the children experience group interaction, as well as free-choice activities. Our Clearwater daycare is currently licensed to care for children 2 months to 5 years of age and our Barriere Preschool covers children 2 1/2 years to 5 years of age.
