The District of Clearwater is now accepting applications for Initial Attack Firefighters to join a newly formed Fire Department Initial Attack (FDIA) Crew for the 2025 wildfire season. See District of Clearwater Fire Department Initial Attack Crew Proposal (available at reception desk) This is a seasonal, volunteer-based opportunity with paid training to enhance community safety and wildfire response. The successful candidates will be strong team players, safety-focused, and comfortable working in physically demanding and rural environments.
Completion of senior secondary school or equivalent is required. Candidates must possess a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement (or ability to obtain) and maintain a clean driver’s abstract.
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in rugged environments
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (or able to obtain)
• Willing to participate in all scheduled training and deployments

Key Details:
• Training Bootcamp: Paid training will be held in May and June 2025 and includes a 5-day intensive bootcamp plus a 2-day field scenario.
• Training Stipend: Participants will receive $200 per day during the training phase (7 days total).
• Season Start: Operational readiness begins June 2025.

• Deployment: Under Clearwater Fire boundary responses, rates are set in the Firefighter Remuneration Policy. Under BC Wildfire Service Interagency Agreement, FDIA crews may be tasked locally and regionally for initial wildfire response. Rates of pay are set in the BCWS Interagency Agreement. For 2025/2026 the rate is $56/hour.
